De Levante foundation steunt Literacy India.
Literacy India is een prachtige, zeer professioneel geleide organisatie in India. In mijn zoektocht de afgelopen 12 jaren naar goede en relevante projecten in ontwikkelingslanden heb ik zelden zo’n uitstekende organisatie gezien. Literacy India wordt geleid door een zeer kundige en bevlogen dame (Indraani) en zij is daarmee een groot voorbeeld voor alle vrouwen en meisjes in India.
Zij heeft voor haar goede doelen werk al meerdere onderscheidingen ontvangen. Naast haar baan als gezagvoerder bij een grote Indiase airline (wat op zich al een ongelofelijke prestatie is die zij als enige vrouw in India heeft bereikt), heeft zijn Literacy India opgericht. Om haar heen heeft zij andere bevlogen mensen aangetrokken.
Het mooie van deze organisatie is dat zij educatie en werk het belangrijkste vinden. Daarmee schep je voorwaarden om zelfstandig en gelukkig te kunnen leven. Mensen moeten zelf willen en het zelf doen: Literacy India biedt de mogelijkheid om wat je het leven te bereiken maar dan moet je zelf willen leren en willen werken. Zij doen inmiddels vele projecten door het hele land. Zij weten inmiddels hoe je projecten goed moet opzetten en daarom kunnen zij heel gemakkelijk opschalen.
Ook de Levante foundation ondersteunt één van hun projecten: een vocational training center in West -Bengal, India. Jongeren krijgen opleiding voor een ambacht, zoals kleermaker, mobiele telefoon reparateur, horeca-vak et cetera. Ook krijgen zij, na hun opleiding, hulp bij het opzetten van hun eigen bedrijfje.

Brief description of the Organization and its activities
Literacy India, a non-profit organization, set up 20 years ago with the objective of empowering underprivileged children and women by making them self-sufficient. LI set its goals in the next decade on the three E’s Education, Empowerment and Employment. Literacy India is working across Delhi NCR, Haryana, West Bengal, Rajasthan, , Uttar Pradesh, Uttaranchal, Jharkhand, and Telangana. . It has 100 centres across India with an outreach of 50000 beneficiaries annually.
Towards achieving this, LI engages with the communities across the nation for the following: Identify young boys & girls from under privileged backgrounds and help build their confidence and awareness: .
- Support children in active schooling
- To nurture, mentor and assist children to become human resource assets in the community and to restore dignity amongst the underprivileged
- Use role models to inspire the youth to take up issues concerning their communities
- Provide women and youth with vocational skills
- Empower women from economically rural & slum areas by providing training for livelihood
Literacy India’s Key Projects
LI has not only taken on the task of creating awareness on the importance of education for under privileged children and youth, but also bring them to level of achieving it.
Project lead of project
The project will be managed by leadership team depending on the geographical location. It will be managed by head of operations, Project directors directly and jointly by KARIGARI project team.
The objectives of the project
The projects focus is on vocational skill training on various need-based skills, and entrepreneurship development either through retail trading (home-based shop or shop-on-wheels) or production oriented activities.
